Japanese ETF

When looking for a Japanese ETF, there are 14 of them currently available. This includes currency ETFs, Bull, Bear, and index ETFs. The variety is there to find the needs and taste of most any investor looking to invest in this Asian powerhouse market.

There is the iShares MSCI Japan Index Fund (EWJ), the FTSE RAFI Japan Portfolio ETF (PJO), the iShares MSCI Japan Small Cap Index Fund (SCJ), the iShares S&P TOPIX 150 Index Fund (ITF), ProShares Ultra MSCI Japan Index Fund 2X Bull (EZJ), the ProShares UltraShort MSCI Japan Fund 2X Bear (EWV).

There is also the SPDR Russell Nomura PRIME Japan ETF (JPP), the SPDR Russell Nomura Small Cap Japan ETF (JSC), the Wisdom Tree Japan High-Yield Equity Fund (DNL), the Wisdom Tree Japan Small Cap Dividend Fund (DFJ), and the Wisdom Tree Japan Total dividend Fund (DXJ).

All of the above ETFs are trades on an American Stock Exchange.

The Claymore Japan Fundamental Index ETF (CJP) is a Canadian fund traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

There is the iShares MSCI Japan Index Fund (IJPN) and the iShares MSCI Japan Small Cap Index Fund (ISJP) that are traded on the London Stock Exchange.

What is true is that Japan is currently the second largest economy in the world behind the United States. Another fact is that China will soon overtake Japan as the second largest economy in the world.

The difference between Japan and China is that Japan companies are well established and so is their market. The Chinese is an emerging market still controlled by a communist government in name only.

If you are thinking of ETF investing in the Japanese market, the risk is lower than with an emerging market, but the profit potential is slightly less because of less risk. With a Japanese ETF in your portfolio, you can be better diversified for what the future holds.
