S&P’s 2010 Dividend Aristocrats

by Douglas on April 9, 2010

The S&P’s 2010 Dividend Aristocrats is set in place for the new year. This is a list of companies that have produced a dividend that has increased every year for the past 25 years for their stock holders. These same stocks have outperformed the S&P 500 in the past 3 years by 5% and by 4.4% for the last 7 years.

New to this year’s list are two more companies, they are Brown-Forman Corporation (BF.B) and Cintas (CTAS). Also this year ten companies were removed for not meeting the requirements. For the year 2010, there are 43 companies that are considered a part of the Dividend Aristocrats.

Below is a list of the 41 continuing companies that are on the list that include 3M Co (MMM), AFLAC Inc (AFL), Abbott Laboratories (ABT), Air Products & Chemicals Inc (APD), Archer-Daniels-Midland Co (ADM), Automatic Data Processing (ADP), Bard, C.R. Inc (BCR), Becton, Dickinson & Co (BDX), Bemis Co Inc (BMS), Centurytel Inc (CTL), Chubb Corp (CB), Cincinnati Financial Corp (CINF), Clorox Co (CLX), Coca-Cola Co (KO), Consolidated Edison Inc (ED), Dover Corp (DOV), Emerson Electric Co (EMR), Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM), Family Dollar Stores Inc (FDO), Grainger, W.W. Inc (GWW), Integrys Energy Group Inc (TEG), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Kimberly-Clark (KMB), Leggett & Platt (LEG), Eli Lilly & Co (LLY), Lowe’s Cos Inc (LOW), McDonald’s Corp (MCD), McGraw-Hill Cos Inc (MHP), PPG Industries Inc (PPG), PepsiCo Inc (PEP), Pitney Bowes Inc (PBI), Procter & Gamble (PG), Questar Corp (STR), Sherwin-Williams Co (SHW), Sigma-Aldrich Corp (SIAL), Stanley Works (SWK), Supervalu Inc (SVU), Target Corp (TGT), VF Corp (VFC), Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) and Walgreen Co (WAG).

This list will be reevaluated in December of 2010 for any adjustments that are needed. All stocks on this list made it because of their past performance. There is no guarantee they will continue to do so. If you are thinking about ETF investing, and one or more of these companies are in the holdings of that ETF, then they do have a well established track record and it could be a good buy.  Just remember the S&P’s 2010 Dividend Aristocrats is adjusted every year and 10 from lasts year list failed to make this year’s list because they did not give their stock holders an increase in their dividends.
