Vanguard ETF

by Douglas on April 21, 2010

The choice of a Vanguard ETF is presently at 47. The oldest ones go back to January 26, 2004 with the newest ones introduced on November 2009. These investments have the advantages of spreading out the risk by investing in more than one source while still being treated like a stock that is traded on a daily basis.

The best performing ETF since its inception is one of the newer ones. This is the FTSE AW ex-US Small-Cap ETF (VSS). This has had a return of 65.22% since April of 2009. Its YTD performance is 7.61%

The best performer over the past 5 years is Emerging Markets ETF (VWO) with a return of 14.90%. Its one year return was at 80.44% and its YTD performance is at 4.12%. The return since its inception has been 13.12%.

The ETF with the highest one year return is the REIT ETF (VNQ) that reached 110.16%. This ETF has an YTD return so far at 13.16% but only 4.26% in the past 5 years.

The best YTD performance of all the EFT’s from Vanguard is the Consumer Discretionary ETF at 18.98%. This was just one of 11 ETF’s that are in the double digits in this first quarter of the year as returns go. The others are Extended Markets (VXF), Financials (VFH), Industrials (VIS), Mid-Cap (VO), Mid-Cap Growth (VOT), Mid-Cap Value (VOE), REIT (VNQ), Small-Cap (VB), Small-Cap Growth (VBK) and Small-Cap Value (VBK).

These are the top performers for Vanguard ETF investing as of the year 2010. As for investing, they have some of the lowest expense ratios in the industry.
